Technology Self-Assessment: School 2.0

NETS-T 1: The Technology Self-Assessment shows me my knowledge in the subject matter of Technology. I can incorporate the use of various digital tools and resources in my classroom to promote and support student creativity, innovation, and inventiveness.
I chose to learn more about Standard #1, NETS-T Module: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity.  The resource provided is a journal article, "Top 10 Web 2.0 Tools for Young Learners," written by Chris Riedel.

I chose this resource because I was interested by the article’s title.  There are lots of really great online tools that are available but are not utilized, and I thought the list given in the article was a good summary of helpful websites.  The great thing about online tools is that majority of them are free of charge, which is amazing for our under-funded school system.  Technology is such a big aspect of our lives and the various devices and applications are becoming more involved with our schools and youth, so it is important that students and teachers learn about.  these online tools are taken advantage of.  These online tools are great resources for teachers; the “Create-A-Graph” tool gives students a flexible and easy way to learn graphing concepts.  Another website, “Glogster,” helps students create visual presentations with media links, sounds, and videos.  These are just a couple of examples of tools that are available online for kids to use in the classroom and at home.

I think that these tools make learning more fun for students, and in turn, students will be able to better understand the concepts they are learning when they learn by doing.  And because technology involvement in our lives in rapidly increasing, it’s beneficial to understand how to use them and what we can do with these online tools.
