About Me

Hello classmates, I’m Rachel Ross! It’s my fifth year here at Cal State San Marcos and I’m so excited to graduate this spring and begin the Teaching Credential Program in the fall. I grew up in Mission Viejo, in Orange County.  I went to Barcelona Elementary, Newhart Middle School, and graduated from Tesoro High School.  I come from a very loving and supportive family; I have 4 sisters and now 3 brother-in-laws.  I’m a very social and friendly person, and I’m excited to get to know everyone through our blogs and online activities!

When it comes to technology, I get along pretty well.  Working with computers, phones, and most other electronic devices is fairly easy for me, for the most part.  I’ve been using computers since elementary school so I’m familiar with using the Internet and different software.  I have a MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it.  I used to work well with any PC, but since I’ve made the switch to Mac computers, I have trouble navigating through PCs (especially with updated programs).  I love my Mac because its organized and has a lot of great tools and tricks, but there is definitely a lot for me to learn because I do not take advantage of all the great applications.

I started my college career as a Business major but ending up changing it to Liberal Studies to pursue a teaching career.  I’ve always wanted to teach elementary school but with the ongoing issues in the school system, I thought I would have more success and career opportunities if I studied in the College of Business Administration.  After a few classes, I realized that the business world was not for me.  The College of Education Mission Statement has a couple main points that really stick out to me. I really love the focus on student-centered education.  I believe in the importance of teachers shaping their styles and patterns to the needs of individual students and classes.  Each student differs and learns in different ways.  An education program that is centered on the individual student is best for that child’s achievements and growth.

  2. Hi Rachel,
First let me say your puppy is way too cute! I have a 2 year old Aussie/ Border Collie mix that acts more like a human than a dog. Congratulations on graduating this spring, I would give anything to be in your shoes right now! I wish you the best next year and look forward to getting to know you this semester.

  3. Hi Rachel,

I really enjoyed your post. I too am graduating in May and have 3 sisters and 8 nieces and nephews. I really think you brought up important topics how when teaching, a teacher must understand and learn how to help ALL of their students because, “each student differs and learns in different ways”.
